Report from Niel Barbour Our Footpath Warden

Cotswold National Landscape (CNL) Footpath Warden Report – February 2025

Updates from previous report (September):

Parish Footpath Wardens were requested by CNL to conduct the annual review of all reports logged

on CAMs (OCC Countryside Access Mapping ) website, which includes reports by wardens and,

additionally reported logged via the website by members of the public. This is the first tine wardens

have had access to the full set of reports, having previously only been able to see their own reports,

giving a better insight into the full picture for the Parish. Each reports has been reviewed

Key Points to note:

Footpath 1 (St James House to St James churchyard) – reported as ‘not open’ in June 2023 by a

member of the public & a review of the designated right of way should be carried out by OCC. I have

offered an alternative route.

Footpath 5 (short path up the east side of Bob Warner’s field backing onto to Meadow Lane). Reported

twice in 2022 by the public as overgrown. Needs constant maintenance as not high footfall but

currently cleared & resolved.

Footpath 6 (relates to the footpath, previously reported in September, behind the Carpenters Arms)/

tree now pollarded . Additional signage added & shows as resolved o CAMs. Extensive unrelated tree

clearance with heavy machinery has damaged the footpath which needs reinstating, likely Spring

2025

Unresolved: This footpath should run through St James’s House’s private garden. Over the wall bordering the Church graveyard, there is no

evidence of a path, nor is there any evidence of stile over the wall. Some locals tell me there hasn’t been a footpath in memory. Walkers tend to

use Dolphin Lane. DROW review?
